Renowned Industry Leaders Join Tourism Academy's Advisory Panel

Fred Dixon and Gary Sherwin join other distinguished leaders and tourism experts to serve on Tourism Academy's Advisory Panel.

The Tourism Academy, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the field of tourism and hospitality education, recently announced the addition of Fred Dixon, President & CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions and current Chair of Destinations International, and Gary Sherwin, President & CEO of Visit Newport Beach, to its esteemed Advisory Panel.

The Tourism Academy's Advisory Panel comprises distinguished leaders and experts from various tourism and hospitality industry sectors. Their collective insights and guidance contribute to the Academy's efforts in developing comprehensive curricula, fostering research, and creating meaningful partnerships with academic institutions and industry organizations.

With a career that spans decades, Dixon has established himself as a visionary tourism and convention industry leader and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Academy's mission of fostering excellence in tourism education and training. Under his leadership, NYC Tourism & Conventions has achieved remarkable success, contributing significantly to the city's economic growth and global reputation as a premier travel destination. As Chair of Destinations International, Dixon has spearheaded initiatives that promote collaboration and innovation among destination marketing organizations worldwide.

"Education plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our industry, and I am committed to working with the Academy to ensure that aspiring professionals have access to the highest quality training and knowledge."

Sherwin brings expertise and insights spanning 24 years in the destination marketing industry to the Tourism Academy. Prior to his current role, Sherwin served as the Vice President of Market Development for the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority. His significant contributions in the field are evidenced by his co-authorship of the book Destination BrandScience, published by DMAI, which has since become the standard for destination brand development across the industry.

A distinguished California State University Fullerton graduate, Sherwin was recognized for his exceptional achievements by being inducted into the university's Wall of Fame in 2000. His commitment to education extends beyond accolades, as he serves as an adjunct faculty member, enriching the academic experience for future leaders in the industry. Moreover, he is an instructor and co-creator of the DMAI CDME Brand and Positioning course, further solidifying his role as an industry thought leader.

Sherwin also serves on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Visitor Association and the California Travel Association, demonstrating his dedication to fostering collaboration and growth within the tourism sector.
