Groups who’ve been planning travel to Europe will likely have been keeping tabs on the implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), a new entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals—including U.S. citizens—traveling to 30 European countries for short stays. While the original implementation date was set for late 2026, European Union officials have now shared that ETIAS no longer has an official launch date.
Following House and Senate passage of separate continuing resolutions to keep the federal government funded, the U.S. Travel Association, Airlines for America (A4A) and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) sent a joint letter on August 10 urging congressional leaders to quickly resolve the differences between the two measures and enact a stopgap funding bill before the September 30 deadline.
