Are You Ready for National Plan for Vacation Day?

Did you know? Each year, Americans leave hundreds of millions of vacation hours unused.

National Plan for Vacation Day (NPVD) is a day to encourage Americans to plan their vacation days for the whole year at the start of the year—and inspire them to use those days to explore the country. NPVD highlights the importance of taking time off to travel—both for personal wellbeing and for the overall economic prosperity of our nation.

U.S. Travel Association is encouraging those in the industry to join the conversation on January 31, 2023 through social media and otherwise to encourage your travelers to find joy in planning and looking forward to a future vacation.

No matter where your groups are headed in 2023, remind them the benefits of planning early (greater access to attractions, better chances of securing specific dates, etc.) as well as how much travel and taking a vacation can benefit one's mental wellbeing. Last year, Destination Analysts found that 68% of American workers felt at least moderately burned out and 13% considered themselves to be extremely burned out.

Nearly 70% of U.S. workers agree that their ability to take vacations is an important factor in keeping them in the workforce. In fact, paid time off has been shown to be the second most important employee benefit an employer could offer after health insurance benefits.

Knowing this, it's important to emphasize to your groups that even simply planning an upcoming trip has been shown to help relieve stress and offer time to recharge for the year ahead.
