New Experiences, Exhibits and Amenities Await at Ford House

New exhibitions and amenities at Ford House now give visitors deeper insight into the Ford family—a family that changed America and the world.

Ford House is a National Historic Landmark and the lakeside family home of Henry Ford's only son, Edsel, and his wife, Eleanor. For more than 40 years, visitors have come to tour the 1928 Cotswold-style home and beautiful grounds and gardens.

To complete the package, in 2021, Ford House added its largest expansion in more than 90 years—including a 40,000-square-foot Visitor Center. The state-of-the-art building features a new restaurant, expanded programming and exhibit spaces, and private event venues with breathtaking views of Lake St. Clair.

"This milestone expansion project was designed with the visitor experience top of mind," said Ford House President & CEO Mark Heppner.

The Ford Family Story, is a permanent exhibition that introduces visitors to Edsel and Eleanor Ford's estate, demonstrates how the Fords built a life and home that paid tribute to the property's natural environment, the arts and interior design.

Driven by Design, the Visitor Center's first rotating exhibition, features three rare vehicles that have never been showcased together—the world's only 1939 Lincoln Continental prototype, the 1932 Ford Model 18 Speedster and 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster.

The Visitor Center offers four event spaces and three meeting rooms, all equipped with the latest technology and completely adaptable to any gathering. The two signature private event spaces, the Lake Shore Room and the St. Clair Room, have sweeping views of the water and flexible on-site catering options.

"The Fords placed a high value on hospitality, making sure guests felt welcome in their home. Adding new amenities to the Ford House experience extends that hospitality to everyone who visits today," said Heppner. "And in the new exhibits, you can hear the family's stories in a very personal way."
