2024 Next Gen: Anjuli King

Anjuli King is one of the 2024 Next Gens, as nominated by Groups Today readers for making a difference in the industry with her fresh, progressive perspective.

Anjuli King: Director, Domestic Group Tour & Entertainment Sales, Visit Savannah

A 15-year hospitality industry veteran who manages the group tour market for Visit Savannah, Anjuli King was drawn to the travel and tourism industry for a number of reasons.

"The ability to touch lives by facilitating unforgettable memories for families and friends, the immersion in diverse cultures and landscapes, and the personal growth that comes from connecting with individuals from all backgrounds—these are the exhilarating and deeply fulfilling aspects of travel," King said, adding that the sheer excitement of exploration adds another layer of magic, as each new destination unveils its unique charm. "There's simply no substitute for the thrill of discovering a new city for the first time."

The group travel industry holds a unique allure for King, stemming from its remarkable ability to benefit both travelers and communities alike. She says that Savannah's emphasis on supporting local businesses perfectly exemplifies this impact.

"Imagine leading a group to a new destination, knowing your presence directly contributes to a family's livelihood while allowing you to experience the beauty of their hometown," King said. "This powerful combination of positive influence and enriching experiences is what makes this field so inviting and rewarding."

King also finds that group travel facilitates connections, fosters exploration and creates lifelong memories. Because of these factors, she's deeply excited about the future of the industry and the opportunity she has to play a role in its continued growth and success.

King's engagement and involvement in the industry shines as a testament to her commitment. As a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in the industry, King is an active member of the African American Motorcoach Council, along with being a professional member of the Meeting Advisory Committee for the American Bus Association and a liaison for Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

King has also been appointed to serve on the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) Board of Directors until 2026, an accomplishment she says is a pivotal moment in her professional journey.

"This marks my first board experience, and I'm thrilled to learn from and contribute alongside esteemed colleagues from diverse backgrounds," King said. "The humbling trust and respect placed in me by the community members I serve is deeply appreciated and inspires me to be a strong advocate for their needs."

King is eager to embrace the challenges and rewards that come along with the opportunity to serve on the SYTA Board, in addition to what the future may hold.

"While I find my current role at Visit Savannah incredibly fulfilling and don't foresee me leaving any time soon, I remain open to future possibilities should life take an unexpected turn," said King, who said she could see herself teaching hospitality or being part of a DMO consulting firm of some sort. "Sharing my passion, knowledge, stories, and expertise in this industry while inspiring others, assisting other destinations flourish, or even shaping the next generation of hospitality leaders, would allow me to share what others have bestowed upon me, bringing my career full circle!"

One thing remains certain: King's passion for hospitality remains unwavering.

"While retirement may be some time away, I envision having a part-time concierge role, enjoying the hotel perks while still exploring God's beautiful creation."
