Samsung Galaxy Note7 Phones Banned from Airplanes
The Department of Transportation (DOT) issued an emergency order to ban the Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone from all flights in the United States after numerous reports of the devices bursting into flames, including several on planes.
Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage or in checked baggage on flights to, from or within the US. Additionally, the phones cannot be shipped as air cargo.
The ban, supported by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, took effect on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Passengers who attempt to travel with a Samsung Galaxy Note7 will be denied boarding and may face possible prosecution, in addition to fines.
