Here's a Chance to Give Back!
Calling all travel industry professionals! Tourism Cares and travel industry professionals are teaming up to clean things up. The Tourism Cares for the Mississippi River volunteer program is part of the National Park Service's (NPS) Centennial Celebration and is the third event of its kind. On May 19 and 20, 150 travel industry professionals will help restore the Coldwater Spring site in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Once an important crossroads for Native Americans and traders, and later the home of the Bureau of Mines, the Coldwater Spring site is now vacant. In 2011, the Bureau's buildings were demolished and the area's restoration began. The site is currently overgrown with vegetation, which is where you and your able hands come in! Volunteers will be asked to work alongside NPS staff to continue the restoration of the oak savannah prairie through a planting and invasive removal project. Each volunteer group will take shifts removing and planting. Volunteers will also be given a guided tour to learn more about the Mississippi River.
