Step Back in History: Tour Dubuque

Iowa's oldest city, Dubuque, has embraced its heritage and welcomed guests from around the world to experience its rich history and culture through progressive tours. Guests can see firsthand what makes Dubuque unique and why it's nicknamed the "Masterpiece on the Mississippi."

Imagine stepping back to an era of eloquently-made Victorian dresses, top hats, embellished canes and detailed finishing in homes including Tudor-style wooden arches, rosettes, moldings, stained glass windows and mosaic floors. The 19th century truly comes alive as guests visit three of Dubuque's historic properties, while enjoying delicious food along the way on the popular Historic Progressive Dinner.

Not a history fan? Experience Dubuque "the local way" through the Dubuque Food Tour. On this tour guests have the opportunity to dine in three of Dubuque's treasured local properties including Cremer's, Dubuque's last family-owned grocery store, for a sampling of a Turkey and Dressing Sandwich as well as the one-of-a-kind Café Fraiche, and Betty Jane Candies, an award-winning Dubuque original since 1938, where delicious chocolate gremlins are made. With each tasty bite, guests will learn about Dubuque business' commitment to quality, whether it be their made-from-scratch dishes, original recipes or fresh ingredients!
