Make This the Year You Visit!
Each year nearly three million people visit South Dakota to marvel at the majestic beauty of the Black Hills. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the completion of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The Mount Rushmore monument showcases the ingenuity, vision and tenacity of the determined men and women who worked on the historic project.
Rapid City, the nearest urban center to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, is the place to celebrate this anniversary! The city offers a wide range of accommodations, dining, shopping and attractions.
Travelers interested in learning more about Mount Rushmore itself could participate in a ranger-guided tour, audio tour or presidential tour. At the Sculptor's Studio, visitors see the tools used to carve the mountain and the model's original plaster. During the summer, inspirational Evening Lighting Ceremonies focus on the individual presidents and on our nation's history. The ceremonies conclude with a film, a veteran's tribute and the actual lighting of the monument.
