Art is truly all around us—if you know where to look. Groups who are eager to soak up some outdoor sights in the form of public art are in luck, as there are plenty of options to choose from, depending on where your itinerary takes you. Add these mural-heavy destinations to your radar and enjoy!
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
An undoubtedly unique city with its own brand of cool, Asheville is a place where art can easily be enjoyed by the public. And that's intentional! Several murals are scattered throughout the city's South Slope district, which boasts a thriving craft brewery and dining scene that's accented by the area's diverse history and local charm. Visiting groups could get a taste of the creativity by walking the approximately two-mile self-guided South Slope Mural Trail.
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
Groups could find thousands of murals peppered throughout the City of Brotherly Love, thanks largely in part to Mural Arts Philadelphia—the nation's largest public art program dedicated to the belief that art ignites change. Mural themes vary and are meant to create dialogue and understanding. Philadelphia's largest mural (and second largest in the world), How Philly Moves, measures nearly 85,000 square feet and extends along a parking garage at the Philadelphia International Airport. NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
Throughout the bustling Big Apple, groups could find a plethora of murals and public art. Notably, Brooklyn's famous Bushwick neighborhood offers street art unlike any other. Groups could take a guided tour and learn more about local artists and their approach to making art and placing it wherever the city's landscape allows—from murals to graffiti.
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
Though most well-known for its natural beauty, Puerto Rico has street art on another level. Groups could traverse San Juan's Santurce neighborhood, where they'll find vibrant, larger-than-life murals popping off the walls, along with new restaurants, shops, galleries, museums and more. The art found here is not only impressive from an artistic standpoint, but also offers a look into the dynamic Puerto Rican culture.
