An Important Moment in American History

The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world, why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. The museum is welcoming a record number of guests!

 In March 2016, the National WWII Museum welcomed its 5 millionth guest and shattered its previous monthly visitor record. It's recently opened exhibit Road to Tokyo: Pacific Theater Galleries likely accounts for some of the increased foot traffic.

The National WWII Museum has received many major awards. It was recognized in the 2015 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice™ awards as the third ranked museum in the nation. According to Trip Advisor ratings, it is also the No. 1 attraction in New Orleans, for the third consecutive year.

Future visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy all aspects of the museum's $370 million expansion that is currently underway. This includes new galleries in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion that tell the story of the Home Front and the road to war, drawing on personal narratives and evocative artifacts to highlight facets of American life during the WWII era.

Others stages of this expansion plan include construction of the Hall of Democracy Pavilion, to house academic and outreach programs, and a Liberation Pavilion, which will highlight end-of-war and post-war experiences, and will explain the war's meaning for citizens today.
