Canada Plans for a Rocking 150th!

The year 2017 will be awash with events celebrating Canada's sesquicentennial—with opera, fireworks, and a range of special exhibits in Ottawa's museums.

Canadian Opera Company
Louis Riel, a "uniquely Canadian contribution to the opera world," is sung in English, French, Latin and Cree with English subtitles. The story of Canada's westward expansion will run during spring 2017 in Toronto. www.coc.ca

150th Canada Day - July 1, 2017
A Snowbird fly-by, RCMP Carousel, live music and extraordinary fireworks make Parliament Hill's Canada Day party a celebration for the ages! Events will be held throughout the major parks in the area, and museums will be open for visitors. www.ottawatourism.ca

National Arts Centre
After a $110.5 investment, the NAC will open its doors July 2017. Featuring the NAC Orchestra, theater productions in English and French, dance, a Broadway series, community programming and a range of other events, the NAC's offerings span a range of age and interest levels. www.nac-cna.ca

Bank of Canada Museum
Formerly the Currency Museum of Canada, the museum will reopen in a totally renovated building on Sparks Street. www.bankofcanadamuseum.ca

ByTown Museum
In the heart of downtown Ottawa, the ByTown explores the evolving city, from its early days when it was known as ByTown to present day. The museum marks its 100th anniversary in 2017. www.bytownmuseum.com

Canada Science & Technology Museum
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the museum will reopen November 2017 after an $80.5 million renovation and upgrade project.

Canadian Museum of History
Hockey in Canada: More Than Just a Game will be a headline exhibit in 2017, and the museum's new Canada History Hall opens July 1, 2017. www.historymuseum.ca

Canadian War Museum
A special World War I exhibit about the Canadian victory at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, during which Canada emerged from the shadow of Great Britain, will run April 2017 – January 2018. www.warmuseum.ca

Canadian Museum of Nature
