Artistic Inspiration

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is replete with natural beauty and outdoor experiences. Those looking to explore the area could hop aboard the upgraded Agawa Canyon Tour Train, whose passengers venture 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie into some of Canada's most majestic lands.

During the ride, travelers will see the beautiful landscape that inspired the Group of Seven, aka the Algonquin School. These Canadian painters initiated the first major Canadian national art movement by painting the beautiful landscapes of the Agawa Canyon.

At mile 102, the train begins its 500-foot descent into the Agawa Canyon, bringing all of those aboard to the canyon's floor. Passengers are then given the opportunity to experience up close the pristine beauty of Canyon Park. While there, passengers learn more about the Group of Seven's painting locations as they participate in an artist-guided tour. Train tour participants also learn about the region's history and about the entrepreneurs that pioneered this vast wilderness and called it home.
